Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge

Rachel Carson was the author of Silent Spring, a book that catalyzed the modern environmental movement by showing the effects of pesticides on humans and the environment. She began her career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and now has one of its refuges named after her.
