Eutheria is divided into three main groups: Afrotheria, Laurasiatheria and Euarchontoglires. Those will be discussed in following pages of this chapter. There is one order of eutherian mammals that does not fit into any of these groups, which will be the focus of this page: Xenarthra, which includes the sloths, anteaters and armadillos.

Much like in the case of marsupials, there is only one species of edentate native to the U.S.: The Nine-Banded Armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus).
Four living families: Bradypodidae (Three-Toed Sloths), Choleopodidae (Two-Toed Sloths), Dasypodidae (Armadillos), and Myrmecophagidae (Anteaters).
