Metatheria is the group of mammals known as marsupials and the orders of marsupials are the focus of this page. Marsupials give birth when the offspring is barely developed and it goes on to further develop in a pouch the mother has.

The order of Opossums is the only order of marsupials found in North America. As of 2024, just one species of Didelphimorphia has been observed in iNaturalist in the US and 83 throughout the world. Some species checklists have noted a second species found in the US, the Southern Opossum (Didelphis marsupialis), but it has not been reported to iNaturalist.
