The overarching division of bony animals (Teleostomi) is between the ray-finned and lobe-finned fishes. Actinopterygii is the classification that includes all ray-finned, bony fishes. Sarcopterygii includes the lobe-finned fishes, but also every other terrestrial animal in the following chapters.
